New Delhi: Amid the rising concern related to Delhi AQI, Delhi government has made two major announcements. As part part of the announcement, Delhi govt has said that all the registered and verified construction workers will be provided direct financial benefits.
This step has been taken for workers whose daily life has been impacted due to the suspension of construction activities. Notably, Rs 10,000 will be transferred directly to their bank accounts through the Direct Benefit Transfer system.
Talking about the same Labour Minister Kapil Mishra said that the initiative is to cut daily commuting and reduce vehicular emissions. He further added that the action will be taken against institutions that will not follow the rules.
He said, "Similarly, workers will be awarded compensation for the days GRAP IV will remain in place. These benefits will be extended to workers registered with the government. The registration process is ongoing."
On the imposition of GRAP-4 in the national capital, Minister Kapil Mishra said, "All private offices operating within NCT Delhi shall function with no more than 50% of their staff attending the workplace, while the remaining staff must work from home. This guideline is issued by the Labour Department. Along with mandating 50% attendance, offices are also encouraged to adopt flexible working hours. It is not necessary for all staff to arrive and leave at the same time, timings should be staggered. For example, if a group is called at 10 AM and everyone is coming from the same location to the same destination, they should return in a staggered manner. These guidelines are being issued to ensure smooth implementation..."
Meanwhile, environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa on Tuesday announced new rules for vehicles entering Delhi. As per the new rules, only BS-VI vehicles will be allowed from outside the city, while vehicles without a valid Pollution Under Control (PUC) certificate will be denied fuel. In his statement, Sirsa said, “After tomorrow, vehicles that do not have a valid PUC certificate will not be provided fuel.”
