Lucknow: The atmosphere in the Uttar Pradesh Assembly heated up on Friday over the Shankaracharya controversy. Answering the opposition's questions, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath clearly said that no one is above the law in the state. Without taking names, he said that mere use of a post does not entitle a person to any privilege. The job of the administration is to maintain law and order and the same is being done.

Is there any controversy regarding Shankaracharya?

The root of the dispute is said to be in the circumstances arising during the Magh Mela. Differences had come to light between the administration and his supporters regarding the use of the name and title of Shankaracharya Swami Avimukteshwarananda. Objections were also raised regarding some arrangements, after which the matter gained momentum.

What did the Chief Minister clarify in the House?

Yogi Adityanath said that it is the responsibility of the government to respect religious faith and saint tradition, but the official form and validity of any post is decided by tradition and system. He bluntly said that the rules in the state apply equally to everyone.

On what basis did the opposition raise questions?

Opposition parties alleged that the government was interfering in religious matters. He said that instead of dialogue with the representatives of the Sant Samaj, administrative strictness was shown. To this the Chief Minister replied that maintaining law and order is the primary responsibility of the government and action is taken under that.

What was claimed regarding law and order?

In his address, the CM said that the law and order situation in the state has become better than before. Citing statistics, he said that many steps have been taken to control crime and increase administrative accountability. He said that the tradition of considering any person or group above the law has ended.

Is this issue being given a political color?

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath alleged that the opposition wants to take political advantage by giving importance to this matter without any reason. Maintaining peace and order in the state is his priority and any kind of rumor or incitement will be strictly stopped.
