New Delhi: In the Congress Working Committee meeting held in New Delhi, senior Madhya Pradesh leader Digvijay Singh put forward a serious issue before the party leadership. He said that there are people active within the organization who can create problems for the party and are harming its unity. According to Digvijay, it is important to identify them and take timely action; otherwise, it may impact the next elections also.
Singh said in clear words that if the party does not change itself from within, it may have to suffer losses due to these so-called 'sleeper cells.' His suggestion was that Congress needs to become active again at the grassroots level and strengthen the organization from top to bottom. He also expressed concern over centralization of power and said that local leaders should be given more responsibility and freedom so that the party's base can be strengthened again.
When Digvijay Singh was presenting his side, Congress national president Mallikarjun Kharge intervened in the meeting and said that he wanted to give other senior leaders also a chance to present their views. After this restriction by Kharge, Digvijay's address ended there, due to which the perception of imbalance started emerging in the meeting. Many party supporters believe that Kharge's reaction shows that the views of the leaders are being closely monitored in the organization.
Sources say that there exists a faction within the Congress supporting the ideas of Digvijay Singh. Some party officials agree that there is a need to change the thinking at the senior level to organize and strengthen the organization. On the other hand, some leaders are also linking Digvijay's words with his future and political ambitions. His son Jaivardhan Singh, who is an MLA and district president, is also often named in these discussions. Similarly, some leaders criticized Digvijay and said that this is not the time for division but for unity.
Digvijay Singh recently shared an old picture on microblogging platform X in which Prime Minister Narendra Modi and senior BJP leader LK Advani were seen. He wrote that this picture shows the power of organization—how a true worker can rise above the base of the organization and reach the leadership level. The post gave rise to discussions both inside and outside the Congress.
Digvijay Singh's statement has once again raised questions on the leadership, nature of organization, and policy making in the party. Some party workers believe that this voice can pave the way for reviving the organization, while critics are terming it as an internal dispute. Now the challenge for Congress is how it resolves these complications and keeps its position strong in the electoral environment.
