National News: The country has got a new Vice President. National Democratic Alliance (NDA) candidate C.P. Radhakrishnan won the election by defeating opposition candidate and former Supreme Court judge B. Sudharsan Reddy. After the election results, preparations for his swearing-in ceremony have begun in the capital Delhi. The ceremony will take place on the morning of September 12 at Rashtrapati Bhavan, where President Draupadi Murmu will administer the oath of office and secrecy to him.

According to NDA sources, the swearing-in ceremony will take place on Friday morning. It has been said that this date has been decided as per the auspicious time told by the Pandit. Invitations will be sent to senior NDA leaders and prominent leaders of various parties for this ceremony to be held at Rashtrapati Bhavan. This ceremony will not only be important from a political point of view but is also considered important from the point of view of parliamentary traditions.

Election results and statistics

Secretary General and Election Officer of Rajya Sabha Secretariat PC Modi announced the result. Out of a total of 781 MPs, 767 voted, which was a record voting rate of 98.2 percent. Out of these, 752 votes were found valid, while 15 were declared invalid. 377 first preference votes were needed to win the Vice Presidential election. Radhakrishnan got a total of 452 votes while opposition candidate B. Sudharshan Reddy got 300 votes.

Speculation Over Cross Voting Support

On paper, the NDA had the support of 427 MPs, but as a result, Radhakrishnan got 452 votes. That is, he got 14 more votes than expected. It is believed that this included the support of 11 MPs of the YSR Congress Party.

However, there is speculation in political circles about where the additional three votes came from. This is being linked to the possibility of cross voting in the opposition camp. At the same time, 13 MPs abstained from voting, including seven from Biju Janata Dal (BJD), four from Bharat Rashtra Samiti (BRS), one from Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) and one independent MP.

After the results were announced, Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated C.P. Radhakrishnan. He said that Radhakrishnan's life has always been dedicated to social service and empowering the underprivileged. He is confident that the new Vice President will not only strengthen constitutional values ​​but will also improve parliamentary discourse.
