National News: In a shocking incident in South 24 Parganas’ Kakdwip assembly area, locals discovered a damaged idol of Goddess Kali in a temple on Wednesday, sparking widespread anger. The incident occurred in Surynagar Gram Panchayat, where villagers noticed the broken idol early in the morning. As news of the desecration spread, crowds quickly gathered at the temple, creating a tense and volatile atmosphere.
The main opposition party, BJP, quickly held the TMC government responsible. Suvendu Adhikari, Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly, claimed that extremist elements had broken the idol and accused the TMC government of trying to cover up the matter. He shared a picture of the idol on social media and wrote that this scene is not from Bangladesh but from today’s Bengal. Adhikari warned that if Hindus do not stay alert, the threat could increase in the coming days. He also alleged that the state administration initially tried to prevent this matter from coming to light. BJP IT Cell head and party co-in-charge in Bengal, Amit Malviya, also criticized the state government, calling it an example of administrative failure. He said the police closed the temple instead of investigating. The BJP demanded the immediate arrest of those responsible.
The Bengal police rejected the allegations, saying that some people were spreading false information. In a statement, the police said the investigation began as soon as the damaged idol was reported. Efforts are ongoing to identify those involved, and strict action will be taken against the culprits. Angry locals blocked the national highway for several hours during the day and refused to immerse the idol. The police tried to reason with the protesters, but when the crowd began throwing stones, they used mild force to control the situation. After this, the idol immersion was completed.
The TMC accused the BJP of trying to create communal tension. A local TMC leader said the BJP is deliberately trying to give a religious angle to the incident. He added that no conclusions should be drawn until the police investigation is complete. Considering the tension, the administration deployed additional police forces in the area. Officials said the situation remains tense but under control.
