Red Fort Explosion: Image of Car-Borne Suspect Surfaces Ahead of Probe

Delhi: An important clue has been found in the case of the blast near the Red Fort. Police have received CCTV footage in which the suspicious person who was driving a Hyundai i20 car is seen. There was an explosion in the same car on Monday evening, in which eight people died and many were injured.

When and where was the car seen?

According to the information received, the explosion occurred at 6:52 pm on Monday evening. The car was seen leaving just before this in the CCTV footage. Investigation revealed that this car was parked near Sunehri Masjid, located on Subhash Marg, for about three hours.
According to the footage, the car entered the parking lot at 3:19 and exited at 6:48—just minutes after the explosion occurred.

Who is the owner of the car?

Investigation has revealed that the ownership history of this car is quite long. Initially the car was in the name of Mohammad Salman. After this he sold it to Nadeem. Then this car reached a secondhandcar dealer named Royal Car Zone in Faridabad. Later this car was bought by Pulwama resident Tariq and after that it reached Umar Mohammad.

What did the intelligence agencies say?

Intelligence agencies of Jammu and Kashmir say that this blast may be related to the arrest of Dr. Mushmil Shakeel. 2,900 kg of IED-making material was recovered from the mill. According to sources, after the arrest of Mujhmil, Umar Mohammad feared that the agencies would reach him, so he planned and executed a fidayeen attack (suicide blast).

Who were detained?

After the blast, police detained Tariq, as the car was still registered in his name. Police are now investigating the relationship between Tariq and Omar, as well as trying to find out who was in possession of the car just before the blast.

What is not yet known?

At present the identity of the current owner of the car is not clear. Delhi Police and investigating agencies are examining CCTV footage, forensic evidence, and digital records to find out where the car went before the blast and who was driving it.
