New Delhi: Delhi was shaken by a big explosion on Monday. A massive explosion suddenly occurred in a car parked outside Gate No. 1 of the Lal Qila metro station, near the historic Red Fort of the capital. This area is very sensitive from a security point of view and is generally crowded. So far, 8 people have been confirmed dead in the blast, while many are injured.

Where and how did the explosion occur?

The blast occurred on Monday evening when a large number of people were present around the Red Fort metro station. Suddenly there was a powerful explosion at the rear of a car, causing chaos in the entire area. The intensity of the explosion was such that nearby buildings shook and smoke spread all around.

How many people were killed, and how many are injured?

According to information received from Lok Nayak Jaiprakash Narayan (LNJP) Hospital, 8 people have died. Two dead have been identified, while six are yet to be identified. Unidentified human remains have also been sent to the hospital, which is being confirmed. The condition of many of the injured is critical, and three people are said to be still in danger.

How much damage was caused by the blast?

The explosion occurred from the rear of the car, causing a fire. The fire soon engulfed three to four vehicles parked nearby. Many vehicles were damaged, and some were completely burnt to ashes. Fire brigade teams reached the spot and brought the fire under control.

Has any suspect been arrested?

Delhi Police has detained a suspicious person. At present he is being interrogated. Police say that many agencies are jointly investigating this incident so that the truth about the blast can be brought out.

Who is investigating?

Considering the seriousness of the blast and the sensitivity of the location, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has taken over the investigation. The NIA team has reached the spot and is collecting samples along with forensic experts. Preliminary investigation suggests the possibility of an IED blast.

How is the security system in Delhi?

After the incident, high alert has been issued in the entire capital. Security checks have been increased in Delhi-NCR, and police deployment has been increased in metro stations, markets, and crowded areas. Neighboring state Uttar Pradesh has also been put on alert.

Red Fort Metro Station is a major transport hub of Old Delhi, where thousands of people come and go every day. In the evening this area is full of tourists, shopkeepers, and travelers. In such a situation, this explosion has raised serious questions on the security arrangements of the capital.
