New Delhi: On Monday night, there was a sudden explosion in a car near the historic Red Fort of Delhi. Initially it was considered a normal explosion, but as the investigation progressed, the matter turned out to be much more serious. Security agencies revealed that this blast was not a small-scale incident but was part of a terrorist conspiracy that had been prepared for two years. Under this conspiracy, there was a plan to carry out serial blasts in many big cities of the country, including Delhi.

Who are the faces behind this conspiracy?

Investigation revealed that the main members of this module are doctors by profession. The arrested accused include Dr. Muzammil Ahmed Ganai, Dr. Adil Majid Rather, and Dr. Shaheen Shahid. All of them have been associated with Al-Falah Medical College, Faridabad. The mastermind of this module, Dr. Umar Nabi, is still absconding. According to the agencies, Umar is the person who worked to collect explosive material and connect terrorists in many parts of the country.

What has come to light in the investigation?

According to the investigating agencies, this group had been collecting explosive elements like ammonium nitrate for the last two years. These were being stored on the instructions of Jaish-e-Mohammed so that when the time came, blasts could be carried out at many places simultaneously. A secret online group was found in the phone and chat records of the accused, in which Omar's brother, Parvez Saeed, and many other people were active. Terror plans were discussed in this group. Investigation also revealed that ammonium nitrate was being purchased from a supplier in Gurugram.

How did educated professionals join terrorist networks?

The most surprising thing is that the people included in this module are doctors, who are generally considered to be associated with respectable professions. Security agencies say that these doctors were inclined towards radicalism through social media. Gradually these people became part of the active terrorist network. This new pattern is a matter of concern for the agencies, because it is clear that terrorist organizations are now targeting educated youth.

How big a threat is this network to the country's security?

This module is considered extremely dangerous because its plan was multi-city. That means the blast in Delhi was only the beginning; after this there was an intention to carry out blasts in many cities. Security agencies have admitted that this group was being operated through handlers sitting across the border. Its strings extend to Jammu-Kashmir and Haryana. This incident has once again shown that terrorist organizations have now started using educated and technical people within the country.

What further steps are being taken now?

At present, the investigating agencies are conducting raids in search of the absconding accused, Dr. Umar Nabi. People who were in contact with him are being detained and interrogated. Delhi, Haryana, UP, and Jammu and Kashmir police together are searching for the roots of this entire network. Investigators are trying to find out how, despite so much explosive material being collected for two years, no one had any inkling of it. It is also being seen whether any other group associated with this module is still active.

The Delhi blast case has once again shocked the security agencies. The involvement of doctors and educated youth in terrorism has given a new turn to the investigation. This conspiracy, which was being prepared for two years, has been exposed, but it has made it clear that terror is now arising not only from the borders but also from the minds.
