New Delhi: Dr. Omar Unn Nabi, the suicide bomber of the car blast in Delhi on November 10, had gone to Turkey in 2022. Two more accused—Dr. Muzammil Shakeel Ganai and Dr. Muzaffar Raza—were also present with him. Sources related to the investigation said that this trip was done on the instructions of Pakistani handler Ukasha. However, the person whom the three accused had gone to meet could not be met, and they were made to meet a Syrian operative.

Whom did he meet in Turkey?

According to sources, the three doctors spent about 20 days in Turkey. Ukasha had told him that he would not be able to meet him, as he was active around the Afghanistan-Pakistan border. Instead, he instructed all three to meet a Syrian citizen. During this time, Muzaffar went to Afghanistan via the UAE and joined Al-Qaeda there.

Why did Umar return to India?

According to investigating agencies, Umar was also ready to go to Afghanistan, but his Pakistani handler ordered him to return back to India and carry out a "big mission" here. Omar returned to India and then started studying at Al-Falah University. While there he prepared a module that started collecting explosives in large quantities.

What can be revealed from the newly arrested accused?

The NIA on Thursday arrested Muzammil along with three more people—Dr. Adeel Ahmed Rather, Dr. Shaheen Saeed, and Maulvi Irfan Wage. They will now be included in the inquiry to investigate international links. The agencies hope that these accused can provide important information on the meeting held in Turkey and the activities of the module.

What kind of guidelines were received from Pakistan?

An official said that Umar, Muzammil, and Muzaffar were constantly connected on Telegram with three handlers based in Pakistan—Faisal, Hashim, and Uqasha. These people used to send him videos, radical material, and bomb-making techniques. These instructions later became the basis of Delhi Blast and other plans.

Who was the first accused arrested?

Earlier, NIA had arrested Aamir Rashid Ali and Jasir Bilal Wani. Aamir had helped buy the car used in the blast. He was aware of the plan of suicide attack. Before the blast, Umar arranged for money from Aamir, and then both of them went to Haryana and bought a car. Jasir is accused of providing technical help, like converting drones into rockets.

How was this module revealed?

This entire matter came to light after investigation of Jaish posters put up in the Naugam area. Jammu and Kashmir Police gathered several leads in the initial investigation and found out that some doctors studying at Al-Falah University, Faridabad, were running a dangerous terror module. The police uncovered this after a complex and lengthy investigation.
