Businessman Samir Modi, the brother of former IPL chief Lalit Modi, was sent to police custody for two days in connection with a rape case. Modi was stopped at Indira Gandhi International Airport after a Look Out Circular (LOC) was issued by New Friends Colony Police Station and was later arrested on rape charges. Police said a woman came forward five days ago and filed a complaint against Modi, which led to a case being registered for rape and criminal intimidation. The woman claimed that the incident had occurred some time ago.
The FIR was filed on September 10, 2025, after the woman said she had been in a relationship with Modi since 2019. She alleged that her accusations were aimed at getting money from Modi. Modi had earlier approached police on August 8 and 13, 2025, filing complaints against the same woman for blackmail and extortion. His lawyers said these complaints included WhatsApp messages where the woman allegedly demanded Rs 50 crore. While passing the order, the judge said the police should also investigate Modi’s complaint of extortion against the woman.
Modi’s lawyer, Advocate Simran Singh of Sakura Advisory, said the allegations against him were "false and made up" and part of an attempt to extort money. The statement called the arrest a "rash act by the police without checking the facts" and described the case as a misuse of the law. The statement added that they have complete faith in the courts and police, who will investigate the case and resolve it quickly. It also requested the media to respect Modi’s family’s privacy during this sensitive time.
