Gorakhpur: During the inauguration ceremony of Kalyan Mandapam in Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath emphasized environmental protection and cleanliness. In his address, he stated that one of the biggest challenges facing the world today is the deteriorating environmental balance, which needs to be addressed immediately. He also commented on Delhi's air pollution.
The Chief Minister appealed to people to maintain cleanliness around them and avoid littering. He highlighted the ill effects of single-use plastic, advising them not to throw it in drains or on roads. He stated that even small negligence can lead to major environmental crises in the future.
Citing Delhi's air quality, he said the air there has become so polluted that it feels like a gas chamber, making breathing difficult and causing irritation to the eyes. He advised asthma patients, the elderly, and children to avoid going outside unless absolutely necessary. He also questioned whether such a lifestyle can be considered normal.
Yogi Adityanath said that despite the pace of development in Uttar Pradesh, the environment is comparatively clean and people are not struggling with pollution. He attributed a clean environment to a healthy body and fewer diseases. The Chief Minister stressed that a lack of oxygen affects the body, so protecting the environment is everyone's responsibility. He reiterated that development and environmental protection can coexist provided everyone is aware and takes responsibility.
Reacting to Chief Minister Yogi's statement, AAP leader Sanjay Singh attacked the BJP. He said, "Has CM Adityanath forgotten that the BJP is in power in Delhi, or has he deliberately made this statement to expose Modi and Rekha Gupta?"
It should be noted that in 2025, Delhi's air quality was extremely poor during the winter months, and the issue became internationally prominent. Many countries issued advisories for their citizens.
