National News: Commuters traveling on the Delhi Metro will now have to spend a little extra on their daily rides. The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has officially announced that fares will increase from today. The fare revision is small, but it affects almost all passengers, as it is based on the distance traveled. For regular metro services, fares have been raised by 1 to 4 rupees, depending on the journey length. Tickets on the Airport Express Line have also increased, with prices going up by up to 5 rupees.

Minimal Increase, But Notable for Daily Travelers

DMRC clarified on social media that the fare increase is minimal. The change is designed to cover operational costs while keeping metro services efficient and reliable. Despite being small, the hike will be noticeable for daily commuters who travel longer distances or use the Airport Express Line regularly. The corporation emphasized that the revision is necessary to maintain the high quality of services that passengers have come to expect.

Distance-Based Fare Changes

The new fare structure for regular metro rides has been revised according to distance:

  • 0–2 km: Fare increased from 10 to 11 rupees
  • 2–5 km: Fare increased by 1 rupee
  • 5–12 km: Fare increased from 30 to 32 rupees

This step ensures that passengers pay fairly according to the distance they travel. For those traveling longer distances, especially on the Airport Express Line, ticket prices have been adjusted up to 5 rupees higher than before.

Impact on Daily Commuters

For daily travelers, even a small increase can add up over time, particularly for those who commute to work or school every day. Many regular users of the Delhi Metro expressed mixed reactions. Some said that the increase is reasonable given the quality and cleanliness of metro services, while others voiced concerns about how small increases might affect lower-income passengers who rely on the metro daily.

DMRC Statement

The DMRC assured passengers that this revision is a modest step aimed at maintaining sustainable metro operations. The corporation also highlighted that the fare hike is designed to support ongoing maintenance, service improvements, and safety measures across all metro lines.

While the fare increase is small, it reflects a broader trend of metro services adjusting prices in line with rising operational costs. Commuters are advised to check the updated fare charts and plan their travel expenses accordingly.
