Delhi-Mumbai Expressway Adds Driver-Friendly Wayside Amenities to Boost Safety and Comfort

The Delhi-Mumbai Motorway is now setting new benchmarks in driver welfare with the launch of Wayside Amenity Stations under NHAI’s initiative. Designed especially for long-haul truckers, these ‘Apna Ghar’ stations offer clean restrooms, CCTV-monitored parking, meals, Wi-Fi, and sleeping facilities—all for a nominal fee of ₹112. With four stations already operational out of the planned 21, the project reflects India’s push toward safer and more humane road infrastructure.

The Delhi-Mumbai Expressway, one of India’s biggest and most eco-conscious road projects, is quickly becoming a model for driver-friendly highways. A special focus is being placed on helping long-distance truck drivers, who spend many hours daily behind the wheel.

New Rest Stops Built for Drivers’ Comfort

To improve safety and well-being, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has created special Wayside Amenity Stations. These spots are designed to help drivers relax and refresh during their journey. So far, 21 stations have been built, and four are already working. "Apna Ghar" is one such station operated by Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) close to Dausa, Rajasthan. This stop offers many services such as truck parking, clean toilets, showers, kitchens for self-cooking, a dhaba, CCTV cameras, free Wi-Fi, and more. The whole cost, including GST, is only Rs 112.

Affordable Meals and Easy Booking

According to Radha Mohan, Business Manager at IOCL, drivers who don’t want to cook can buy full meals at the dhaba for less than Rs 130. There are 35 beds available for drivers to rest. Bookings can be done using the ‘Apna Ghar’ app, or the petrol pump staff can help them register. Many drivers use the service daily, and 50–60% of the beds are occupied regularly.

Extra Features for a Better Journey

These rest stations also include fuel pumps, restaurants, EV charging stations, parking bays for buses and trucks, and even motels for longer stays. Some stations also feature play areas for kids, making them suitable for family travelers too.

A Step Towards Safer Roads

By providing a safe and comfortable space to rest, these stations help reduce driver fatigue, which is a major cause of accidents. The NHAI’s move shows a strong commitment to supporting the truck drivers who play a vital role in India’s economy.
