Delhi-NCR, UP, Uttarakhand Brace For Rain, Thunderstorms As IMD Issues Weather Alert

The IMD has issued a heavy rain, thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds warnings for several parts of the country over the next few days.

New Delhi: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Wednesday has forecast heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds across parts of the country, including Delhi-NCR, Punjab, Haryana to Uttar Pradesh. The department has issued a rain alert from May 10 to 12. On Thursday also, Delhi-NCR will remain cloudy and light rain can be seen at some places. 

What did IMD say?

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has also issued a rain warning at some places in Delhi, Punjab and Eastern Rajasthan on Thursday. Heavy rain is expected in Uttarakhand from May 6 to 8. Light to moderate rain and snowfall is likely.

In southern region, Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry are likely to receive heavy rainfall, accompanied by lightning and gusty winds over the next week.

How will be the weather in Delhi, UP and Punjab?

The IMD has issued a rain alert for Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh between May 10 and 12. Thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds is expected in Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand on May 11 and 12. Winds are expected to blow at speeds of 40 to 60 kilometers per hour. Light to moderate rain and snowfall are also possible in hilly areas.

The weather in Delhi will remain variable on Thursday, and people may experience light rainfall. The sky will remain cloudy, and light rain with thunderstorms is possible in the afternoon and evening. The weather will then be normal on May 8 and 9, but rain will resume again on May 10 due to a western disturbance. In Haryana, areas including Gurugram, Chandigarh, and Sonipat-Panipat will also experience rain.

What about rain alert in West Bengal and Bihar?

The IMD has issued a rain alert for the Andaman and Nicobar Islands in eastern India from May 6 to 10, and for West Bengal and Sikkim until May 9. The Gangetic plains in Bengal are expected to experience light to heavy rain accompanied by lightning and thunderstorms from May 6 to 8 and again on May 10. Rain and thunderstorm warnings have been issued for Bihar from May 6 to 10, and for Jharkhand and Odisha for the next seven days.
