New Delhi: The weather in the national capital and surrounding areas (NCR) changed drastically on Friday. Delhi and the adjoining National Capital Region, including Noida and Ghaziabad, witnessed a light rain on early Friday morning. However, rather than cooling the temperature, it increased the humidity further.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the monsoon is active in Delhi-NCR, but heavy rainfall activity has stopped. Weather experts predict that this type of weather is likely to persist for the next few days.
According to the IMD, on July 17, the sky will be partly cloudy with the possibility of light rain and thundershowers at some places. This will bring down the temperature and the weather will be pleasant. The maximum temperature at the Safdarjung weather station is expected to be around 38-39 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature is expected to be around 28-29 degrees Celsius.
It should be noted that on Thursday, the capital recorded the hottest July day in nearly two years. The maximum temperature at the Safdarjung weather station reached 39.2 degrees Celsius, four degrees above normal. The minimum temperature was also 30.2 degrees Celsius, 3.2 degrees above normal. This is the highest maximum temperature in July in the last two years. The previous high was 39.3 degrees Celsius on July 30, 2024. The minimum temperature is the highest since July 2, 2024, when it reached 30.7 degrees Celsius.
According to weather experts, moist south-westerly winds are moving towards Delhi from the Arabian Sea. These winds are creating clouds, but the moisture diminishes over Gujarat. Therefore, sufficient moisture isn't reaching Delhi. As a result, clouds are forming, but there's no strong weather system to trigger rain. Weather expert said similar conditions are likely to persist for the next three days.
According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), Delhi may receive light to moderate rain at isolated places until July 19. However, there is a possibility of good rainfall between July 20 and 22.
