New Delhi: Delhi-NCR is again in the another weather shift. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an alert for Thursday evening. Between 5 pm and 7 pm, moderate to heavy rain with strong winds is likely to occur in the region of Delhi, Noida, Ghaziabad, Gurugram and Faridabad. The speed of winds could touch 50 to 80 kmp during this period of time. Officials said that the rain at any one location could last between 30 and 45 minutes. Following this, temperatures will drop and the sticky heat will ease.
The southwest monsoon has not yet reached Delhi-NCR. But pre-monsoon activity has been in the tossing and turning mode. Rain spells have been coming and going over the previous weeks. IMD has also flagged that the rain is possibly, over the couple of days, in the Punjab and Haryana region. Delhi will see partly cloudy skies through the day with thunder and light showers possible at few locations.
After two days of rain, June 17 brought the heat back with a vengeance and intensity. Strong sunshine through the day made the city feel suffocating. The maximum temperature was 38.1 degrees Celsius and the minimum was 23.8 degrees. Humidity peaked at 85 percent. Only 3 mm of rain was recorded in the past 24 hours. Ghaziabad had it particularly bad on Wednesday. From morning to evening residents dealt with blazing sun and thick humidity. Even by evening there was no relief.
IMD also stated that the clouds, light drizzle and gusty winds will continue across Delhi-NCR for the next few days. On Thursday, the maximum temperature is expected to stay between 37 and 39 degrees Celsius. The minimum will be somewhere between 25 and 27 degrees. Dust-laden (strong moving air carrying dust, sand, or dirt particles) winds are expected at around 50 kmph, in some of the areas along with light rain.
On Thursday Morning, the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) recorded the Delhi's average Air Quality Index (AQI) at 132. It is comes within the moderate category. Faridabad recorded 118, Gurugram touched 122, Ghaziabad counted 114, Greater Noida reached 125 and Noida made 128. Most areas across the NCR are sitting between 100 and 200 on the AQI scale. A few spots also have recorded it below 100.
