Delhi-NCR Weather: Rain, Gusty Winds Trigger Alert; Temperature Drops by 2-3 Degrees

New Delhi: Just four days since the start of the month May and this sudden change in weather still continues. While the politics is completely heated up, the weather remains cool. The rain that lashed several parts of Delhi-NCR on Sunday night continued till Monday. 

How is the weather?

The weather across the country has turned pleasant. Delhi-NCR experienced much-needed rainfall on Monday morning, bringing relief from intense heat and humidity.

Rain lashed several states across North India, including Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan, and the weather is expected to remain the same. 

In Delhi-NCR, the winds changed direction at midnight, leading to another round of rain, storms, and thunderstorms. 

What did the IMD say?

According to the India Meteorological Department, a western disturbance is active from Monday to Wednesday. This western weather system brings rain, thunderstorms, and strong winds to northwest India. Due to this system, Delhi-NCR suddenly became cloudy overnight and experienced heavy rain. However, the rainfall was recorded light to moderate.

What about the temperature?

Light rain and strong winds swept across most areas of Delhi. Some areas of Noida, Ghaziabad, and Gurugram experienced thunderstorms and lightning, along with heavy rainfall. The maximum temperature in the capital Delhi on Monday was recorded at 36.6, 2-3 degrees below normal. This brought some relief from the scorching heat and sun.

Did IMD issue Red and Orange alert?

In view of the sudden change in weather, the IMD has issued a "red alert" for the Shahdara area. An "orange alert" has been issued for several parts of North, South, and South-East Delhi.

The weather has also changed in Punjab and Haryana. The India Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert for both states. This weather condition will continue until May 6. 

What about UP and Rajasthan?

The changing weather is also affecting Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan. An alert for heavy rain and thunderstorms has been issued for eastern and western Uttar Pradesh until May 7. 

According to the IMD, various parts of Uttar Pradesh experienced rainfall and strong winds in the past 24 hours. The department stated that some areas in central Uttar Pradesh recorded up to five centimeters of rain, while eastern parts received light to moderate rain and western regions received light rain. 

The IMD stated that no heat wave conditions were recorded anywhere in the state, and no such conditions are forecast for the next week.
