New Delhi: Delhi Police and central agencies are carrying out a massive operation to search for a Bangladeshi terrorist linked to the sleeper cell of LeT in the capital. Before this, 8 suspects associated with this network had been arrested, and their interrogation has yielded many important clues. Police claim that this module was planning to hatch a terrorist conspiracy in the country, in stopping which there has been great success till now.

What are the activities of this sleeper cell?

According to the police, this sleeper cell was directly linked to the top leadership of Lashkar-e-Taiba, Hafiz Saeed. Most of the eight arrested suspects are said to be Bangladeshi nationals, who were using Indian identity documents and were allegedly involved in planning terrorist activities. During interrogation it was also revealed that they were collecting information for the terrorist network.

Is that suspect currently in India?

Officials say that a Bangladeshi suspect is still absconding in this case and the search for him is going on. Delhi Police Special Cell and intelligence agencies have taken it up for tracking on priority basis. Police said the arrest of this suspect could expose more parts of the network, allowing the potential threat to be more effectively contained.

Has any major action been taken before this?

Yes, earlier the special cell of Delhi Police had neutralized an LeT-linked module, arresting 8 suspects, including several Bangladeshi nationals. This action not only exposed a possible enemy conspiracy but also took an important step towards completely foiling it.

Is there a threat to national security?

Experts say that such terrorist networks remain active from time to time and the vigilance of intelligence agencies is proof of this. Organizations like Lashkar-e-Taiba have in the past also targeted the country's security and tried to target sensitive areas like the national capital. Recently, security agencies had also issued a high alert for historical and crowded areas like Red Fort and Chandni Chowk.

Can the NIA also be involved in this case?

Police and central agencies are jointly investigating the matter. As soon as the location of the suspect is known, immediate action will be taken against him. Not only this, the use of digital forensics and intercept techniques is also being increased to identify and stop such modules. Security sources say that the sooner the suspect is caught, the bigger step will be taken towards thwarting possible terrorist plans in the country.
