This entire matter is related to the suicide of senior Haryana IPS officer Y. Puran Kumar, which has shaken both the state's politics and administration. Seven days after the suicide, the government took a major step and placed Director General of Police (DGP) Shatrujeet Kapoor on leave. Prior to this, Rohtak Superintendent of Police Narendra Bijarnia had been transferred.
Before committing suicide, IPS Y. Puran Kumar left a final note in which he named 15 officers, including Chief Secretary Anurag Rastogi, DGP Shatrujeet Kapoor, and Superintendent of Police Narendra Bijarnia, for harassing and torturing him. Based on this, an FIR has been registered at the Sector 11 police station in Chandigarh under various sections, including the SC/ST Act.
Since the incident, his wife, IAS officer Amneet P. Kumar, and his brother, Aam Aadmi Party MLA Amit Ratan Kotfatta, have been demanding the removal, suspension, and arrest of the DGP and Superintendent of Police. Several Dalit organizations have also supported this demand.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Jan Vishwas-Jan Vikas rally, scheduled for October 17 in Rai, Sonipat, has been postponed amid this controversy.
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi will arrive in Chandigarh on Tuesday morning to meet the family of Y. Puran Kumar. He will be accompanied by former Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda and state president Rao Narendra Singh.
Union Minister Chirag Paswan will also meet the family on Tuesday afternoon. Previously, Union Minister Ramdas Athawale, Haryana Cabinet Ministers Krishna Kumar Bedi and Krishna Lal Panwar, and several other Dalit leaders have met with the family.
Telangana Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, Jharkhand Congress in-charge Raju, and INLD chief Abhay Chautala also met with the family and demanded the removal of the accused officials.
Union Energy Minister Manohar Lal Khattar has immediately engaged in resolving the matter after returning from abroad. Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini has spoken to Governor Prof. Asim Kumar Ghosh.
The chief minister's political secretary, Tarun Bhandari, and representatives of the Scheduled Caste Commission are continuously trying to persuade the family, but MLA Amit Ratan Kotfatta is adamant on the arrest of the DGP and Superintendent of Police.
Y Puran Kumar's postmortem had not been conducted as of the seventh day after the incident, but it is expected to be completed on Tuesday.
The state government is now under pressure to ensure a fair investigation and justice in this sensitive case.
