National News: After a strong remark by the Supreme Court on the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in a Karnataka-related case, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and Delhi Assembly’s Leader of Opposition, Atishi, launched a fierce attack on the BJP. She alleged that the central government is repeatedly misusing investigative agencies like the ED to target opposition leaders.

Supreme Court Questions ED’s Political Role

Atishi stated that while hearing a case related to the Karnataka Chief Minister’s wife, the Supreme Court asked a sharp question — “Why is ED being used as a political weapon?” She reminded that this is not the first time the court has criticized the agency, recalling the previous description of ED as a “caged parrot.”

Liquor Scam Case: No Recovery, All Bail — Atishi

Pointing to the Delhi excise policy case, Atishi said that ED arrested multiple AAP leaders under the fake liquor scam allegations but couldn’t recover even a single rupee. Eventually, all the arrested leaders were granted bail, showing that the ED’s intention was political rather than investigative.

ED Summons to Karnataka CM's Wife Quashed

Atishi explained that the recent controversy began when ED issued a summons to the wife of the Karnataka CM. The Karnataka High Court cancelled the summons, but ED challenged the order in the Supreme Court. This prompted the apex court to question the motives of the agency once again.

Repeated SC Criticism of Central Agencies

Referring to Arvind Kejriwal’s earlier bail, Atishi noted that the Supreme Court had again criticized the ED and stated that his arrest appeared to be “malicious.” She emphasized that this pattern of remarks shows how agencies like ED and CBI are losing credibility due to political misuse.

Widespread Targeting of Opposition Parties

According to Atishi, this is not an isolated issue. She listed several examples — from Hemant Soren and Jharkhand Mukti Morcha, to TMC’s Abhishek Banerjee, and leaders from RJD and BSP — all of whom were allegedly harassed by ED, yet no significant recoveries or convictions followed.

PMLA: A Tool for Political Conspiracy?

Atishi highlighted that under PMLA, bail provisions are stringent. ED arrests leaders, holds them without trial, and when the Supreme Court intervenes and grants bail, the cases are put on hold — only to be revived during election seasons. She called this a clear political strategy to intimidate the opposition.
