Kolkata: The troubles of former West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee show no signs of abating. On one hand, there's the crushing defeat in the assembly elections, followed by a major split within the party, with several leaders deserting her. Amidst all this, TMC chief has now suffered another setback. An FIR has been filed against her for inciting communal sentiments during a speech.
An FIR has been filed against Mamata Banerjee at the Hare Street Police Station. The case is for hate speech. The FIR was filed for making communal remarks in a political event on March 9.
This complaint was originally filed by a businessman, which was later converted into an FIR. The incident occurred on March 9, when TMC chief Mamata Banerjee delivered a speech at an event at the Dharma Manch in Kolkata's Esplanade area. The complainant described this speech as inflammatory and stated that it threatened to spark social unrest.
The person who filed this complaint is Tushar Kanti Das. According to reports, Tushar Kanti Das filed this FIR on June 7, at 3:45 pm. The FIR number is reportedly 0106, and its registration number is 32712018260106. This complaint was received in written form.
An FIR was filed against Mamata Banerjee two weeks ago in Siliguri. This FIR was also filed for inciting religious sentiments. An FIR has been registered under sections 351(1), 352, and 353(2) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). Section 351(1) relates to the offense of criminal intimidation, while Section 352 relates to the offense of intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace.
During her election campaign, Mamata Banerjee was accused of saying that "if a particular community attacks Hindus, they will be punished at 12 o'clock." This implied that Hindus would face the consequences of attacks against a particular community. The complaint alleges that such comments instilled fear in members of the Hindu community, and also harmed social peace and religious sentiments.
This complaint against Mamata Banerjee was registered by the Cyber Crime Unit on the complaint filed by local advocate Rinki Chatterjee.
On one hand, the party is on the verge of complete collapse. Mamata could lose the party symbol at any moment. More than 58 MLAs have left the party. Meanwhile, her concerns about her nephew Abhishek Banerjee are also growing. From the ED to the CID, the noose is constantly tightening.
Meanwhile, speculation is rife that the TMC might merge with the Congress, as this would be disastrous for both the TMC and Mamata Banerjee.
