New Delhi: On 2 October the country celebrates the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. On Friday also a special program was organized at Rajghat to pay tribute to Bapu. President Draupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi. The President participated in the inter-religious prayer, while both the leaders in their messages mentioned Gandhiji's thoughts and lessons related to his life. This year, Gandhi Jayanti has come at a time when there is a situation of conflict and tension in many parts of the world. In this context, President Murmu recalled Gandhiji's thoughts of peace and non-violence.
In her message on Gandhi Jayanti, President Draupadi Murmu paid tribute to Bapu. She said that the ideas of Mahatma Gandhi are respected not only in India but in many parts of the world.
The President especially mentioned non-violence and peace. She said that in the current global circumstances, Gandhiji's thinking inspires people to adopt the path of peace instead of violence.
President Murmu also remembered Gandhiji's idea of Sarvodaya. It means welfare and development of every person in the society. She said that India is moving towards the goal of becoming a developed nation by 2047. In such a situation, it is necessary to extend the benefits of development to every section of the society. She also appealed to the citizens to play their role in the development of the country.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tribute to Bapu on Gandhi Jayanti. He associated Gandhiji's life with truth, non-violence, compassion and service. PM Modi said that Gandhiji's thoughts will continue to guide humanity in the times to come. He also linked Gandhiji's message with the idea of a better society and developed India.
The Prime Minister also mentioned Gandhiji's ideas of Swadeshi and Khadi. He appealed to the people to buy local products. PM Modi suggested buying at least one Khadi product on the day of Gandhi Jayanti. He says that promoting local goods also helps the artisans and small businessmen of the country.
The day of October 2 is also special because on this day the former Prime Minister of the country Lal Bahadur Shastri was born. He was born in 1904. PM Modi also paid tribute to Shastri ji and remembered his simple life and dedication towards the country. On this occasion, his famous slogan 'Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan' was also in discussion.
In India, 2 October is celebrated as Gandhi Jayanti. The United Nations has also declared this date as International Day of Non-Violence.
That means October 2 is not limited to just Gandhiji's birth anniversary. This day is also an opportunity to remind the world of the importance of peace and non-violence. Special emphasis on these values of Gandhiji was also seen in the messages of the President and the Prime Minister this year.
