New Delhi: A major accident took place on Ganga Expressway near Sultanpur Janauli late on Sunday night. A high-speed and uncontrolled car coming from behind hit seven people walking on the road. The collision was so severe that four people died on the spot or during treatment, while three others were seriously injured.
Riya Patel, Priya Patel, Himanshi, Shalini, Rashmi, Sadhna and Asma of Kodar village of Jagatpur had gone to attend the Bhandara organized in the nearby village of Chuli. While returning from the program, everyone was walking home when this tragic accident happened.
Himanshi and Shalini died on the spot in the accident. The injured were first sent to Jagatpur CHC and then to the district hospital, where Asma and Rashmi also died during treatment. Treatment of the remaining three injured is ongoing.
Local people allege that the ambulance reached the spot about half an hour after giving the information. Not only this, the door of the ambulance also did not open for a long time. This negligence spread anger among the people present. The police somehow explained and handled the situation. Family members say that such carelessness is unacceptable in an emergency.
Due to closure of Laxmanpur railway crossing, there was heavy traffic jam on Jagatpur-Dalmau road. There was a long queue of vehicles for about two kilometers, due to which the second ambulance could not arrive on time. The injured were forced to be taken to the district hospital in private vehicles. The police had to put in a lot of effort to clear the jam.
According to Dalmau Area Officer Girjashankar Tripathi, the injured have been immediately sent for treatment. The car involved in the accident has been seized and the search for the driver is ongoing. After receiving the complaint, a case will be registered and further legal action will be taken.
