Unnao: Relying on mobile navigation proved costly for two youths in Unnao district of Uttar Pradesh. While following the route shown by Google Map, his car, which was going to a wedding ceremony, lost its way and went to the bank of a drain and got stuck in a dangerous position. It was fortunate that the people present nearby took out both youths in time, due to which a major accident was averted.
According to the information, Sandeep and Sunil Kumar, residents of Naubasta, Kanpur, were going by car to attend a wedding in Bhagwantkheda village located in Barasgwar police station area of Unnao. Since he did not know the route to the village properly, he started the journey by entering the location in Google Maps on his mobile. As per the instructions given by the map, they left the main road and turned towards the rural area.
Initially the road was fine, but as we progressed further the road became unpaved and very narrow. Since it was nighttime, he did not realize the situation. After reaching some distance, they realized that this path was not suitable for four-wheelers and there was only a walking path ahead.
When the youth tried to turn the car back, the car lost its balance near Sharda Canal on Bighapur-Rujai road. The car slipped and got stuck on the slope near the drain and remained hanging in the air. Both youths got scared by this sudden incident and started calling for help.
Hearing the noise, some passers-by reached the spot and after a lot of effort, took out both the youths safely. Later, on receiving information in the morning, Hydra machine was called and the car was also taken out from the drain.
Local people say that in rural areas, sometimes Google Maps, in the name of shortcuts, shows such routes that are not safe for vehicles. Therefore, in unknown places, it is considered safer to ask the locals for directions rather than relying only on digital navigation.
