Bihar Election 2025: The Bharatiya Janata Party has released its second list of candidates for the Bihar Assembly elections, which includes the names of 12 candidates. The most talked-about candidate on this list is folk singer Maithili Thakur, whom the party has declared its candidate from the Alinagar Assembly seat in Darbhanga district. She joined the BJP on Tuesday and has now been granted a ticket.

Opportunity After Party Switch

Maithili Thakur joined the party in Patna in the presence of Bihar BJP President Dilip Jaiswal. Due to her popularity as a folk singer, there was speculation that the BJP might field her from a prestigious constituency. Finally, her name was formally announced on Wednesday in the party's second list for the Alinagar seat. This move is being seen as a strategic move by the BJP to appeal to young voters and those with cultural ties.

Anand Mishra Gets Buxar Ticket

Besides Maithili Thakur, other prominent names in the BJP's second list include former IPS officer Anand Mishra, who has been nominated for the Buxar seat. Ramchandra Prasad has also been nominated for Hayaghat and Ranjan Kumar for Muzaffarpur. Previously, the party had announced the names of 71 candidates in its first list. So far, the BJP has announced a total of 83 candidates, and names for the remaining seats are expected to be announced soon.

Political History of the Alinagar Seat

The Alinagar Assembly seat was formed after the 2008 delimitation, and its first election was held in 2010. This seat is reserved for the general category and has a rather interesting political history. In 2010 and 2015, senior RJD leader Abdul Bari Siddiqui won from here. In the 2020 elections, the seat went to the VIP Party when Mishri Lal Yadav defeated RJD's Vinod Mishra in a close contest. Mishri Lal received 61,082 votes, while Vinod Mishra came in second with 57,981 votes.

All Eyes On Maithili Thakur

Maithili Thakur is a renowned folk singer from the Mithila region and enjoys a strong fan following on social media. The party hopes she will not only influence the youth and women but also strengthen the cultural identity of Darbhanga and the surrounding areas. It will be interesting to see whether Maithili can translate her popularity into votes and win from Alinagar.
