New Delhi: After the arrest of a wing commander of the Indian Air Force, the investigation into the alleged espionage network has intensified. Delhi Police has arrested the officer for allegedly sharing sensitive defence information. According to the police, the case has been registered under the Official Secrets Act and the investigation has indicated that this cannot be a matter limited to just one officer. Officials suspect that a big network was working behind this whose purpose was to obtain strategic information related to Indian military activities.
According to police sources, the officer was going through a difficult phase in his personal life. During this time, he started talking to a woman through social media. The conversations gradually escalated into video calls and the two started having regular contact. The investigating agencies allege that the woman first won the trust of the officer and later started asking him for information related to military activities. Police suspect that the woman was allegedly working for Pakistan-based intelligence handlers.
According to the investigation, the wing commander allegedly shared information, photos, videos and other sensitive details related to the movement and deployment of military units with the woman. Police are also trying to find out which documents were included in the information allegedly sent and for what purpose they were to be used. Currently, investigating agencies are assessing the actual sensitivity of the leaked information and its potential security impact.
The most serious aspect of the case is that the investigation is not limited to the accused officer only. According to the police, the woman had allegedly asked the officer to install a special app in the mobile phone of one of his colleagues. Agencies fear that this app could have been used to steal data or gain unauthorised access to the phone. Investigators suspect that through this method an attempt was made to access the mobile phones and information related to other defence personnel.
According to sources, Delhi Police took action on the basis of input received from the Intelligence Wing of the Indian Air Force. The officer was arrested on the night of 31 May 2026. After his arrest, he was interrogated in police custody and later sent to judicial custody. At present he is lodged in Tihar Jail. The Indian Air Force also confirmed that the officer was under surveillance and was later handed over to law enforcement agencies.
The police is now investigating the entire digital trail. The focus of the investigation is to find out on which platform the conversation took place between the officer and the woman, how much information was shared and to whom this information further reached. Along with this, efforts are also going on to identify the alleged foreign handlers. Police suspect that there may be operators based in Pakistan behind the woman, but the investigation into this aspect is still going on.
Delhi Police sources say that in the initial investigation this case is pointing towards a big network. However, how many people are involved in this network and what its reach is will become clear only after the investigation is completed. At present, the allegations against the accused officer are yet to be proved in the court. The investigating agencies are also trying to find out whether the allegedly acquired defence information was used by any foreign intelligence agency or not.
