National News: A disturbing case has emerged from Medanta Hospital, Gurugram, where an ICU technician has been arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting a female air hostess who was undergoing treatment. The incident took place inside the Intensive Care Unit, while the woman was on a ventilator. The accused, identified as Deepak Kumar, has confessed to his actions during police interrogation.
The 25-year-old technician, who hails from Bihar, worked at the hospital as an ICU machine operator. The case came to light when the victim filed a formal complaint on April 14, several days after the incident. Following this, Gurugram Police registered a case and formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to look into the matter.
Incident Occurred on April 6: The air hostess was admitted to Medanta Hospital on April 5. The next night, on April 6, the technician allegedly approached her under the pretense of checking her waist support. He then inappropriately touched her private parts using his fingers, while she was unconscious and under treatment.
Accused Watched Porn Before and After: During the investigation, police found that Deepak had viewed pornographic content on his phone both before and after the incident. His browsing history showed multiple visits to adult sites, indicating a possible addiction.
Victim Filed Complaint Days Later: The woman filed her complaint with the police on April 14. She stated that she had been sexually violated while undergoing treatment. Based on the seriousness of her statement, a case was filed under relevant IPC sections, and the SIT was formed.
Deep Investigation Led to Arrest: Police scanned over 800 video recordings from inside the hospital and nearby areas. The suspect's mobile phone was seized, and browsing records were recovered. During interrogation, the technician admitted to the crime. The hospital terminated his employment immediately after the arrest.
Digital rape refers to the non-consensual insertion of fingers or objects into a woman's private parts. It is treated as a serious sexual offence under Section 376 of the Indian Penal Code, with punishments similar to that of rape.
