On Monday, five Bangladeshi nationals were arrested near Delhi’s iconic Red Fort. These individuals had been living illegally in India for the past 3 to 4 months. According to the police, they had come to visit the Red Fort but were unaware that, due to heightened security ahead of Independence Day on August 15, the monument had been closed to the public since July 15. Legal action has been started against all five, and deportation proceedings are also underway.
Providing details about the incident, the police said that the five young men, aged between 20 and 25, were noticed by security personnel stationed near the Red Fort during routine checking. Upon inspection, they were found without any valid entry passes. During questioning, it was revealed that all of them were Bangladeshi citizens who had illegally entered India three to four months ago. The detained individuals claimed they work as labourers in various parts of Delhi, a police official said. They were found to have Bangladeshi identifying documents, but no suspicious items or activities were found.
Legal action has been initiated against the five, and the process of deportation has started. A thorough investigation is also underway to find out how and why they entered India. This incident occurred just days before August 15, India’s Independence Day when security in and around the Red Fort is significantly tightened. Every year on August 15th, Prime Minister Narendra Modi unfurls the national flag at the Red Fort and delivers a keynote address to the nation. On this occasion, heavy security arrangements are made in and around the area.
