IMD Weather Alert: Very heavy rainfall expected in these states over the next week

New Delhi: Amidst the heat prevailing in North India, South India and Northeast India are experiencing heavy rainfall. The Meteorological Department has issued a heavy rain alert for six states—including Nagaland and Manipur—valid for the next seven days. Additionally, heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected over Northeast India, the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, and Sikkim during the coming week. Meanwhile, a heavy rain warning has also been issued for Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, Kerala, Mahe, Lakshadweep, and South Interior Karnataka for the next three days.

According to the Meteorological Department, Northeast India is likely to witness rain, lightning, and thunderstorms—specifically in Assam and Meghalaya on May 18; in Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura on May 17; and in Nagaland, Manipur, and Mizoram from May 18 to 19. Furthermore, heavy rainfall is forecast for Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Assam, and Meghalaya over the next seven days—that is, from May 17 to May 23.

Turning to South India, Coastal Andhra Pradesh is expected to experience scattered to moderate rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds on May 20 and 21. Interior Karnataka will witness thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds on May 17 and 18. Rain is also expected in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal from May 17 to 19; in Kerala and Mahe from May 17 to 21; and in Lakshadweep, Coastal Karnataka, Rayalaseema, and Andhra Pradesh on May 17 and 18.

Regarding Northwest India, scattered rainfall is expected in Jammu and Kashmir on May 19 and 20, and in Uttarakhand from May 20 to 23. There is a possibility of thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds. Himachal Pradesh is also likely to experience rain, thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds during the period from May 19 to May 23. Speaking of Central India, scattered rainfall accompanied by thunder, lightning, and strong winds is expected in Madhya Pradesh and Vidarbha on May 17, and in Chhattisgarh on May 17 and 18.
