New Delhi: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an urgent weather warning on Friday, predicting a dramatic split in weather patterns across the country. The department has issued a rain alert for 16 states within the next 24 hours. The IMD simultaneously issued an "Orange Alert" for Delhi.
The IMD has also issued an alert regarding thunderstorms and storms. After the heavy rain, the temperature is expected to drop by 2 to 6 degrees Celsius in different states.
The IMD has advised residents in the affected storm zones to exercise extreme caution. Powerful winds reaching speeds between 80 to 85 kmph, dangerous lightning, and isolated hailstorms threaten to disrupt daily life across northern and eastern parts of the country.
While 16 state, including Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Jharkhand, Jammu and Kashmir, Tamil Nadu, Odisha, West Bengal, Kerala, Karnataka, brace for violent thunderstorms and heavy rains.
The weather in Delhi-NCR is about to change. IMD has issued an orange alert for strong thunderstorms, storms, and rain. This change will continue until May 31. Winds can blow at 70 kmph and thunderstorms and rain are forecast for May 30 and 31.
Several districts in western Uttar Pradesh are likely to experience dust storms and showers. Wind speeds could reach 80 to 100 kilometers per hour. Strong winds of 70 to 90 kilometers per hour are also expected in eastern Uttar Pradesh. Heavy rain is also expected in some areas of western Uttar Pradesh, and hailstorms are also possible in various parts of the state.
Rainfall is expected to begin on Friday in Jaipur, Bharatpur, Kota, Ajmer, Udaipur, Jodhpur, and Bikaner divisions, and may continue intermittently until May 31. Temperatures, which currently reach 47 degrees Celsius, are expected to drop by up to 2 degrees. Strong winds will blow at speeds of 60-70 kilometers per hour.
