New Delhi: Amidst the ongoing discussions regarding a possible trade deal between India and America, Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar is going on a tour of America. This visit is taking place at a time when there is intense discussion going on in the relations between Washington and New Delhi on trade, tariffs and strategic resources. Jaishankar will participate in the 'Critical Minerals Ministerial' hosted by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, where important issues related to global supply chain and clean energy will be discussed.
Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar will be on America tour from 2 to 4 February. During this time he will attend high level meetings in Washington DC. The agenda of the visit is not limited to just one conference. Bilateral talks with senior officials of the US administration are also proposed.
This ministerial meeting is taking place at a time when the demand for critical minerals has increased rapidly across the world. Electric vehicles, renewable energy and defense technology depend on these minerals. America wants to create a reliable and secure supply chain with partner countries through this platform.
There will be special emphasis in the meeting on minerals like lithium, cobalt and nickel. These are the same materials that are considered the backbone of battery technology and green energy infrastructure. This is an opportunity for India to strengthen its role in strategic resources.
In recent months, there has been tension between the two countries regarding trade deals and tariffs. The need for talks has increased further after US President Donald Trump's strict signals related to tariffs. This visit of Jaishankar is being seen in the same background.
Although there is no clear statement regarding trade deal in the official agenda, it is believed in diplomatic circles that this issue will definitely come up in the talks. India wants trade relations to remain stable and transparent. America is also eyeing a long-term strategic partnership.
The Ministry of External Affairs says that this visit is in the direction of further deepening the India-US partnership. According to the ministry, this visit is not limited to just one meeting but is an effort to strengthen long-term cooperation.
This visit shows that India wants to play an active role in global economic and strategic discussions. In the coming time, its effects may be visible on trade agreements and strategic cooperation.
