New Delhi: After the meeting in Jerusalem, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced they would give the status of “Special Strategic Partnership” to the relationship between the two countries. In the press conference, PM Modi clearly said that this is not just a diplomatic term but a symbol of deep trust and shared values between the two countries.
Many important areas like defense, technology, cybersecurity, trade, investment, agriculture, water management, health and education were discussed in detail in the meeting. Both sides acknowledged that relations have grown rapidly over the past few years and now is the time to take them to the next level.
This new partnership is linked to peace, innovation and prosperity. A total of 17 agreements were signed and many new announcements were made.
PM Modi said that economic cooperation is a strong link in the relations between the two countries. After the investment agreement, efforts will now be made to finalize the free trade agreement soon so that trade can expand further.
Both countries have decided to lay special emphasis on emerging technologies. Work will be done together in areas like artificial intelligence, quantum technology, and critical minerals.
There was also talk of deepening the partnership in the defense sector. The focus will be on joint development and technology transfer. It was agreed to further cooperation between the Indian Space Research Organization and Israel Space Agency in the space sector.
PM Modi made special mention of agricultural cooperation. A target has been set to increase the number of Centers of Excellence in Agriculture running with the help of Israel in India from 43 to 100. There is also a plan to take modern technology to the villages.
Important steps have also been taken in the field of digital payments. India's UPI service can now be used in Israel as well, making business and travel easier.
Both the leaders clearly said that terrorism is not acceptable in any form. Peace and stability in the region were said to be necessary. India once again reiterated its support for dialogue and peaceful resolution, especially regarding the situation in Gaza.
This visit went beyond formalities and resulted in concrete decisions. From defense to digital technology and agriculture, the foundation of a long-standing partnership has been strengthened in many areas.
It is clear that India and Israel have now moved towards becoming not just allies but even closer strategic partners.
