Today’s Weather: IMD Predicts Heavy Rain in Delhi, UP and 17 States, Hills Remain on Alert

New Delhi: Monsoon has again gained momentum in central and northern India. The problems of common people have increased due to continuous rains. The Meteorological Department (IMD) has said that on Sunday, August 24, there may be heavy rain in about 17 states including UP, Bihar, Delhi-NCR. Waterlogging and flood-like situations may also occur in many places.

It is being said that a new system has formed in the Bay of Bengal, which is affecting North and Central India. For this reason, it is raining the most in UP and MP. The Meteorological Department says that the rainy season will continue like this for 2-3 days.

In which states will there be heavy rain today?

According to IMD, on August 24, rain is expected in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Maharashtra, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, West Bengal, Odisha and Gujarat. There will be light rain at some places and heavy rain at some places. Delhi-NCR has also been cloudy since morning and it is raining with strong winds.

In which areas of UP are there flood like conditions?

The situation has started worsening due to continuous rains in UP. There is a flood like situation in more than 14 districts. Rivers are in spate in Prayagraj, Varanasi, Barabanki, Sonbhadra, Mirzapur. Low lying areas are flooded. The administration has asked people not to go near rivers and streams and stay in safe places. Farms have also been submerged in many villages.

Why has the risk of landslides increased in hilly states?

Heavy rains are becoming a problem in Uttarakhand and Himachal. Debris is falling from the mountains due to continuous rain. Many roads have been covered with stones due to which the movement of vehicles has stopped. In Himachal, a part of the Pathankot-Mandi National Highway has caved in. Many link roads are also closed in Uttarakhand.

Will it continue to rain throughout the week?

The Meteorological Department says that this trend of rain can continue for the entire week. Rain activity will continue over Central India and North India for the next 4-5 days. Therefore, people have been advised to keep watching weather alerts and avoid going to areas with heavy rains.
