New Delhi: On one hand, life is disrupted due to torrential rains in western and coastal states, while on the other hand, farmers are worried due to less rainfall in many parts of North and Central India. The Meteorological Department has issued an alert regarding heavy rain and bad weather for many states. There is an orange alert for Jammu and Kashmir for July 5 and 6.
It is raining continuously in many areas of Jammu. Katra-Sanjichat helicopter service was also affected due to cloudy sky.
Light snowfall and rain occurred in many parts of Himachal on Saturday morning. Because of bad weather, 25 roads are closed in the state and work is underway to open them. The Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert of heavy rain in some areas for Sunday.
Continuous heavy and record-breaking rains in Mumbai, Gujarat and Kerala have affected normal life. Waterlogging, traffic jams and problems in daily activities are being seen at many places.
At present the pace of monsoon is slow in the northern and central parts of the country. Farmers are troubled due to lack of adequate rain and sowing of Kharif crops, especially paddy, is being affected.
According to IMD data, between June 1 and July 4:
Amarnath Yatra continues despite rain. On Saturday, 20,145 devotees visited Baba Barfani from Baltal and Pahalgam routes. A total of 32,313 devotees have reached the cave in two days. A new batch of 4,812 devotees left for the yatra in 259 vehicles from Jammu Base Camp.
The Meteorological Department says that heavy rains may continue in the eastern and hilly states in the coming days. Also, monsoon activities are expected to gradually intensify in many parts of North and Central India. Farmers and common people have been advised to keep an eye on the latest warnings from the Meteorological Department.
