New Delhi: Indian Railways is preparing for major changes to provide better facilities to the passengers and make the system more transparent. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav indicated on Tuesday that many important reforms will be implemented soon, whose direct impact will be seen on ticket booking, cancellation rules and freight transportation system.

Are the rules for cancellation of confirmed tickets going to become stricter?

Railways are now going to increase strictness regarding cancellation of confirmed tickets. According to the proposal, if a passenger cancels the ticket less than eight hours before the departure of the train, he will not get a refund. Railways believes that this will reduce the problem of seats remaining vacant at the last moment and will benefit the waiting list passengers.

Will the ticketing system be made more transparent?

New steps are being taken to make the ticket booking process clean and safe. Now Aadhaar based OTP verification will be implemented in Tatkal ticket booking so that fake bookings and activities of brokers can be curbed.

Has the action against fake IDs and bots intensified?

Railways has implemented anti-bot system on its online platform. Under this, about three crore suspicious and inactive user IDs have been closed. This step is expected to make it easier for common passengers to get tickets.

Under the new system, passengers will be allowed to change their boarding station up to 30 minutes before the departure of the train. This will give passengers more flexibility in their travel plans and provide relief from unnecessary hassles.
