In his letter to President Draupadi Murmu, he said that he has taken this decision to prioritize his health and follow medical advice. He said in his resignation letter, "To prioritize health care and follow the advice of doctors, I resign from the post of Vice President with immediate effect, under Article 67 (A) of the Constitution."

74-year-old Dhankhar took over as vice president in August 2022. His sudden move in less than two years has become a topic of discussion in political circles.
