Jammu: An Indian Army vehicle skidded off the road and fell into a deep gorge in Doda, Jammu and Kashmir, on Thursday. Ten soldiers were killed in the accident, while several others were injured. Local residents and rescue teams worked together to rescue the injured.

How did the accident happen?

According to military officials, the accident occurred on Thursday when an army vehicle carrying 17 soldiers was en route to a high-altitude post.  Near Khani Top on the Bhaderwah-Chamba interstate road in Doda, the bulletproof vehicle skidded off the road and plunged into a gorge approximately 200 feet deep. Ten soldiers lost their lives in the accident, while several others sustained serious injuries.

How did the Indian Army respond?

Upon receiving news of the accident, a joint team of the army and police immediately launched a rescue operation. Local residents also joined the police and rescue teams in the effort. During the rescue operation, the bodies of 10 soldiers were recovered. The injured soldiers were also pulled out, many of whom are reported to be in critical condition. Three of the injured have been airlifted to the Command Hospital in Udhampur, where they are receiving specialized treatment.

The Indian Army has issued a statement saying that an investigation into the accident has been launched and that the injured soldiers are being provided with the best possible medical care. The families of the soldiers who lost their lives in the accident have been informed.
