Jammu and Kashmir News: In the historic elections for four Rajya Sabha seats in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, the National Conference (NC) demonstrated its strength by winning three seats, while the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) secured one. The election was conducted under three separate notifications.
The first seat was contested between senior NC leader Choudhary Mohammad Ramzan and BJP's Ali Mohammad Mir. The NC secured 58 votes, while the BJP secured only 28. Ramzan secured a landslide victory, and the NC secured a comfortable first-place finish.
The second seat was contested between NC's Sajjad Kitchloo and BJP's Rakesh Mahajan. The NC also secured an edge, with Sajjad Kitchloo securing 57 votes, while the BJP candidate secured 28.
Voting was held for two seats under the third notification. GS (Shammi) Oberoi and Imran Nabi Dar were the candidates, while the BJP fielded state president Sat Sharma. Shammi Oberoi won the third seat in this phase, adding another victory to the NC's kitty.
However, the fourth seat remained a close contest. The BJP made every effort for this seat and, relying on its organizational strategy, ensured Sat Sharma's victory. He received 32 votes, while the National Conference secured only 22.
In the overall results, the National Conference secured three seats and the BJP one.
According to political analysts, this result reflects the current political landscape of Jammu and Kashmir, where the NC maintained its traditional strength, the BJP established its presence in the southern and Jammu regions by winning one seat.
This election was considered the first major political battle in the Rajya Sabha since the restoration of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, highlighting the strategic strength and organizational preparedness of both parties.
