National News: A piece of heartbreaking news came out of Uttar Pradesh's industrial city, Kanpur. The lintel of an under-construction school building in Hardev Nagar of the Barra police station area suddenly collapsed. In this horrific accident, many workers working at the construction site were buried under the debris. This incident is not only a sample of human negligence but has also become a living example of blatant flouting of construction standards.
According to eyewitnesses, at around 10 am, the workers were preparing to put the lintel on the first floor of the school. Then suddenly there was a loud sound, and a heavy lintel fell down. Many workers working under it were buried. There was screaming and crying on the spot, and people ran for help in panic.
As soon as the information about the accident was received, the police of Barra police station and the fire brigade team immediately reached the spot. Local people also participated enthusiastically in the rescue work. The work of removing the debris started with the help of JCB and other equipment. After about four hours of continuous hard work, all the workers were taken out of the debris.
The injured were immediately admitted to the nearest government hospital. According to sources, the condition of two workers remains critical, and they have been kept in the ICU. The rest of the workers have been kept under observation after first aid. Doctors said that if the rescue work was not done on time, the loss of life and property could have been more.
The police have sealed the spot, and an investigation has been started. Initial investigation has revealed that safety and quality standards were ignored during the construction work. Local residents allege that the contractor was using cheap and substandard material and there was no arrangement for the safety of the workers.
There is an atmosphere of anger in the area after the accident. Local people have demanded strict action against the guilty contractor and the officials associated with the construction work. He said that if the administration had inspected in time, this accident could have been averted. Questions are also being raised on the role of the Municipal Corporation and the Construction Department.
The district administration has ordered an investigation into the matter and said that the culprits will not be spared under any circumstances. At present, the police, fire brigade, and local administration are monitoring the relief work, and no stone is being left unturned in the treatment of the injured.
