In a horrifying incident from Kolkata, the capital of West Bengal, police have arrested one former student and two current students of a law college in connection with the gang rape of a female student. The crime took place within the college premises in the Kasba area on June 25 between 7:30 PM and 10:50 PM. All three accused were presented before the Alipore court, which has remanded them to police custody until next Tuesday. Based on the complaint filed by the 24-year-old survivor, an FIR has been registered against all three.

“I Touched Their Feet and Begged, But They Didn’t Let Me Go”

In her FIR, the survivor stated that she strongly resisted the assault and even fell at the feet of the accused, pleading with them to let her go. “I resisted... I cried and begged him to let me go... I even touched his feet, but they wouldn’t stop,” she said. According to her, the gang rape took place in the guard room of the South Calcutta Law College campus in Kasba late Wednesday night.

What the Complaint Filed on Thursday Reveals

In the complaint filed Thursday evening, the survivor said that after a student meeting around 7:30 PM, three individuals (whose identities she disclosed to the police) surrounded her. Two of them allegedly forced her into the third person’s room. One of the accused then dragged her into a bathroom and attempted to rape her.

The survivor told police, “He tried to force himself on me with the intent of having sex, but I resisted and didn’t let him do anything. I pushed him back and continued resisting. I kept crying and pleading, saying, ‘Please let me go… I can't do this, I have a boyfriend whom I love.’”

The Guard Was Helpless and Did Not Help

She further said, “They locked the college’s main gate. The guard was helpless and did not assist me. Then they dragged me back into the room. I once again fell at their feet, but they didn’t let me go. They forcibly took me to the guard room, stripped off my clothes, and started raping me. While I was being raped, the other two accused stood and watched. They even filmed the act. They blackmailed me, threatened to kill my boyfriend, and said they would get my parents arrested.”

Who Is the Main Accused, 31-Year-Old Monojit Mishra?

According to the FIR, the main accused is 31-year-old Monojit Mishra, a former student of the college and a unit president of the Trinamool Congress Chhatra Parishad (TMCP). The co-accused are 19-year-old Zaib Ahmed and 20-year-old Pramit Mukherjee. Following the complaint, the survivor underwent a medical examination. Police also recorded witness statements and inspected the crime scene, which has since been cordoned off with enhanced security measures. Forensic samples are being collected from the site. All three accused have been arrested, and their mobile phones have been seized.
