New Delhi: RJD chief and former Railway Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav has received a big blow from the court in the 'Land-for-Jobs Scam' case. Delhi's Rouse Avenue Court framed charges against Lalu Yadav, his family, and associates on Friday, January 9, 2026, which has increased the legal troubles for them. After this decision, the case against this scam will now be able to proceed formally.
The court has framed serious charges like corruption and fraud. Many members of his family, including Lalu Yadav, are involved in this allegation. These allegations are related to the alleged scam of ‘land in exchange for job.’ This dispute is believed to be between 2004 and 2009. Lalu was the Railway Minister at that time. The allegation is that land was taken in exchange for giving a job.
The court said that from the preliminary investigation, it seems that the accused worked together like a 'criminal enterprise.' There seems to be enough evidence against him. More than 41 accused will be prosecuted under this. Whereas 52 people were also acquitted because not enough evidence was found against them.
RJD termed the allegations as a political attack. The party spokesperson said that the investigating agencies are being misused. He also said that it will be answered as per the legal process.
In the same case in December 2025, the court had earlier postponed the decision on framing of charges and had given more time to the CBI to respond.
Now this matter will proceed as a full trial. Both CBI and the court will present evidence in the court. After this the trial will start. This matter is a political setback for RJD and the Lalu family. This has especially come when there is political activism and an election atmosphere. Its effect can be seen especially in an affected state like Bihar.
Lalu Prasad Yadav has already been accused in many corruption cases, and lengthy investigation and trial processes are going on against him. With this decision, this matter will be seen with new eyes, and there will be a possibility of its impact in the Supreme Court and High Courts also.
