A poignant video call surfaced, capturing Jaish-e-Mohammed terrorist Aamir Nazir Wani’s final moments before his death in a Tral encounter in Awantipora, Jammu and Kashmir. In the footage, widely shared on X, Aamir’s mother tearfully pleaded with him to surrender to security forces. Defiant, Aamir responded, “Let the army come forward, then I will see,” rejecting her desperate appeal. The call, recorded hours before he and two other terrorists were neutralized in Nader village, highlights the personal tragedy intertwined with the region’s ongoing militancy.

The Tral Encounter
The operation in Nader, launched by the Indian Army, J&K Police, and CRPF, was based on precise intelligence about Jaish-e-Mohammed operatives planning attacks post the April 2025 Pahalgam incident, which killed 26 civilians. The encounter began early on May 15 when the terrorists opened fire, leading to a two-hour gunbattle. Aamir, identified as a key planner, was among the three killed. Security forces attempted to offer surrender opportunities, but Aamir’s refusal, as seen in the video, sealed his fate. The operation underscores India’s intensified anti-terror campaign in South Kashmir.

A Mother’s Anguish and Militancy’s Toll
The video call reveals the emotional cost of militancy, with Aamir’s mother begging him to abandon violence. Her pleas reflect a common struggle among families of radicalized youth in Jammu and Kashmir. Aamir, a local from Pulwama, joined Jaish-e-Mohammed in 2023, drawn by extremist propaganda. His defiance, even in his final moments, highlights the challenge of deradicalization. Community leaders have since called for stronger outreach to prevent youth from joining terror groups, emphasizing the need for education and employment opportunities.
