New Delhi: The Lok Sabha Privileges Department has issued a notice to the Congress Media Cell for allegedly publishing an AI video of Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla. The notice directs all leaders to respond within three days, failing which action will be taken for contempt of the House and breach of privilege.

What prompted the  Lok Sabha action?

According to information received, based on a complaint by BJP MP Vishnu Dutt Sharma, the Lok Sabha Privileges Department has issued a notice for breach of privilege and contempt of the House against Congress Social Media and Digital Platforms Chairperson Supriya Shrinate and eight other AICC officials.

The Secretariat took this action after the publication of an offensive caricature and an AI video against the Lok Sabha Speaker on social media platform X. Lok Sabha Secretariat Director Bala Guruji sent an official letter on February 11, seeking clarification from all the accused.

The Lok Sabha Secretariat has given Supriya Shrinate and other officials three days to submit their explanations. The notice clearly directs them to submit their responses within three days of receiving this communication. This response will be presented to the Speaker of the Lok Sabha for consideration, based on which further action will be decided. The Secretariat has also requested the recipient to immediately send a receipt for the letter so that the legal process can proceed.

What is the matter?

This entire controversy is related to content shared on social media that has been deemed derogatory to the dignity of the Speaker of the Lok Sabha. Complainant Vishnu Dutt Sharma alleges that the Congress media department deliberately resorted to misleading AI videos and derogatory images. This matter has been categorized as contempt of the House because it directly affects the dignity of a person holding a constitutional post.
