New Delhi: Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla has claimed he was the one who prevented the Prime Minister from coming to the House. He made a big claim, stating that this was done because Congress MPs could have physically attacked him. Meanwhile, due to the uproar, the Lok Sabha proceedings have been adjourned until Friday.
The Speaker said that if any incident had occurred, the dignity of democracy would have been shattered. To avoid that, I requested the PM not to come to the House. Ultimately, the motion of thanks was passed without his speech. Speaking about this, BJP MP Aparajita Sarangi said, "it is true that PM Modi's security was at risk. Therefore, we thank the Lok Sabha Speaker for preventing PM Modi from coming to Parliament on Wednesday."
The Lok Sabha Speaker informed that the House proceedings have been adjourned until Friday. He also said that what happened on Wednesday was completely unexpected. He said that the behavior of some opposition MPs in the Lok Sabha has been recorded as a black mark in the history of the Lok Sabha. He said that the kind of behavior that occurred was unprecedented. Such an atmosphere should not prevail in the House, and everyone should cooperate in conducting the proceedings.
When Priyanka Gandhi was questioned about this, she said that such claims are false. She said that if three women MPs stood near PM Narendra Modi, he felt threatened.
"What kind of talk is this? Why don't you ask Amit Shah or Modi why the Leader of the Opposition was not allowed to speak? What was the basis for preventing Rahul Gandhi from speaking in Parliament? What will they say about this? Could they ask any questions to the government," Priyanka Gandhi told the media.
The Speaker said that the Congress was planning some kind of misbehavior against PM Modi. "That is why we postponed his reply speech on the discussion on the President's address. The motion of thanks was passed without his speech," he said.
It's worth noting that this is the first time since 2004 that the Prime Minister was unable to respond to the discussion on the President's address, and the motion of thanks was passed without his reply.
BJP leader Ravi Shankar Prasad said, "What exactly do these people want? To block the PM's path and corner him? What is this? What is the Lok Sabha for? Everyone is saddened by the level to which these people have brought Parliament. The Speaker expressed his anguish today."
