Lucknow: The investigation into conversion and other serious allegations related to Lucknow's King George Medical University (KGMU) has now reached a high level. Initially the case was being seen as just a doctor and a complaint, but the evidence found in the investigation has turned it into a much bigger picture. The case has been handed over to the Special Task Force (STF) of the police and the agency is now investigating aspects of the entire network.

How did the matter first come to light?

It started with the complaint of a female doctor, in which she said that she was sexually exploited by a junior resident doctor on the pretext of marriage and then pressured for conversion. After this the university administration formed a fact-finding committee, which found many suspicious things in its investigation report.

Who is the main accused, and what happened during his arrest?

The main accused, Resident Doctor Rameez (whose name has also been mentioned as Rameez Malik in some reports), was arrested in Lucknow after a search of about 18 days. It was said that he was absconding, and the police had also announced a reward of Rs 50 thousand on him.

What else has been revealed in the investigation?

When the police found Rameez's mobile, much important information came out from it. It is alleged that such data has been found in both his old and new phones, which suggests that the matter was not limited to just one person. Initial investigation revealed that he had been in touch with people associated with PFI (a banned organization) and had also tried to seek legal help from them. It is also being said about his father, Salimuddin, that he has old relations with PFI.

Are other people also involved in this racket?

During the investigation, it also came to light that not only Rameez, but also the names of two female staff and another doctor were also emerging as suspects in the case. These three are also accused of being involved in the conversion racket, and the police are now thoroughly interrogating them all.

Is there any terrorism or extremist connection related to this case?

Preliminary inquiries and mobile data have led the investigating agencies to suspect that the racket may have links to a much larger network, including foreign contacts and links with PFI officials. Not only this, but during interrogation it has also been claimed that Rameez had a relationship with Delhi blast case suspect Dr. Shaheen, which has given a new direction to the investigation.

What will happen next now?

Now STF is conducting a thorough investigation on this entire network, its impact, and the role of its associates. The police want to find out whether this was a small incident or whether a big, organized racket was being operated under the guise of a medical university. For this, mobile data, inquiries, and a network of connected people are being used.
