Madhya Pradesh: Continuous torrential rains in Satna district and Chitrakoot of Madhya Pradesh have worsened the situation. Flood like situations have arisen in many areas. Mandakini river is flowing at a height of about 30 feet, while due to the breach of Gorgi dam, water has entered many nearby areas. About 300 meter long bridge of Ramghat in Chitrakoot was also washed away in the strong current of water. Many shops built along the ghat have also been submerged.
Rivers and drains are in spate in many areas of Nagaud, Birsinghpur, Majhgawan and Satna. Many localities of Birsinghpur are waist-deep in water. Due to water entering the houses, people's belongings got damaged, while many vehicles also got submerged in water.
Water reached inside the petrol pump located at Nagaud police station and Singhpur intersection. Traffic has also been stopped on the road from Kotwali Chowk to Collectorate due to waist-deep water. The situation in Kotar, Kothi and other low-lying areas also remains worrying. Two head of cattle died after a kutcha house collapsed in Kothi area. At many places, boats have become necessary to run on the roads.
Roads leading to many religious places including Sati Anusuiya Ashram in Chitrakoot have been closed. The administration has appealed to the devotees to stay away from the ghats and low-lying areas.
SDRF teams are continuously conducting relief and rescue operations in the flood affected areas. People trapped on rooftops are being airlifted with the help of helicopters. Heavy waterlogging has also affected railway services. Two trains were left stranded as the railway track near Chitrakoot was submerged in water, although the signal was green. The effect of waterlogging has also been seen on the Mumbai-Howrah railway route.
The Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for the next 5 days. Due to the system formed in the Bay of Bengal and the monsoon trough, there will be light to moderate rain with thunderstorms at many places, while at some places there may be heavy rain. There will be rainy season in Rewa division also. The administration has asked people in low-lying areas to stay in safe places.
