New Delhi: In the Shahberi area of Greater Noida West on Friday evening, a massive fire broke out in a furniture market. In no time the fire took a huge form and engulfed many nearby shops. At least seven shops were completely burnt to ashes in the accident.
This was no ordinary fire. The furniture market was filled with wood, foam, plywood and all inflammable items. As soon as a fire broke out in a shop, those goods became fuel for it. Flames ran from one shop to another as if someone had fanned the fire. The shopkeepers themselves kept trying to extinguish the fire, but the fire was not stopping.
When the flames started touching the sky, the shopkeepers lost their senses. Someone was dragging furniture, someone was taking out machines, someone was trying to save important documents. Some people, without caring for their lives, entered the burning shops and took out goods worth lakhs. People nearby also gathered, but this made the situation of traffic jam outside the market more frightening.
As soon as the information was received, Bisarkh police station and fire brigade teams swung into action. Seeing the nature of the fire, more than 30 fire engines had to be rushed to the field. Firefighters kept battling the fire for about an hour, only then could it be brought under control. But the work did not stop here, even after the fire was extinguished, the cooling work continued till late night so that no spark would flare up again.
The one saving grace in this entire accident is that no one died and no one was seriously injured. But goods worth lakhs of rupees were destroyed in the fire. Seven shops were completely destroyed and the hard-earned money of the traders turned into ashes in a moment.
The real cause of the fire has not been revealed yet. Initial investigation suggests a short circuit, but police and fire department teams are investigating the entire matter in detail. Officials say that something can be said for sure only after the investigation report comes.
