National News: The terrorist attack in Pahalgam in Jammu and Kashmir on 22 April and in response to this, the Indian Army has a high alert across the country after the Aermarks on Tuesday-Wednesday night. In this sequence, the Ministry of Home Affairs has organized a civil defense mock drill on Thursday in 244 districts of the country, which aims to test and empower preparations to deal with emergency situations.
Arrangements such as sirens, bunkers and trenches, blackouts and crash protocols are being tested under the drill. Also, withdrawal procedures, capacity of shelter sites, and strengthening of communication network are also being tested.
Delhi: Electricity will be cut from 8:00 to 8:15 pm in the capital's Municipal Corporation area of the capital. NDMC appealed to the residents for cooperation, stating that this practice is part of civil security preparation.
Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, UP & Bihar: On the orders of the Ministry of Home Affairs, blackouts were done in Gujarat, Gwalior (MP), Prayagraj, Lucknow and Patna. There was dark shadow from Patna's Biscoman Bhavan to the Chief Minister and Governor's residence.
Rajasthan & Maharashtra: Mock drills were organized at MI Road in Jaipur and Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) in Mumbai.
Not only the preparations were tested through the drill by the Civil Defense Unit of the Central Railway in Mumbai, but also the common citizens were made aware. CPRO Dr. Swapnil Nila said, "This practice is a demonstration of our ability to deal with any emergency."
Punjab: Amritsar Deputy Commissioner Sakshi Sahni said that mock drills were done in two phases in the district. The first practice was done at 4 pm by playing siren while the second practice will be with blackout at 10:30 pm. He warned those who spread fake news and said that the district administration will give authentic information.
This mock drill organized by the Ministry of Home Affairs is not only a test of the readiness of the security agencies, but also an attempt to train common citizens to be vigilant to emergency situations and give proper response. In the current situation of the country, this practice is considered to be absolutely necessary and timely steps.
