Mokama Murder Case: Anant Singh Sent To 14-Day Judicial Custody By Patna Court

Patna: Former MLA and Janata Dal (United) candidate from Mokama, Anant Kumar Singh, has been sent to 14 days judicial custody on Sunday, i.e., November 2. It is to be noted here that Anant Singh was arrested in connection with Jan Suraaj supporter Dularchand Yadav's murder case.

What is Anant Singh's case?

It is to be noted here that Anant Singh was arrested along with two of his associates, Manikant Thakur and Ranjeet Ram. On Saturday, they were produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) in Patna. After this Singh was sent to judicial custody for two weeks. After Anant Singh's arrest, a violent clash erupted in Mokama on October 30, which lead to the death of Dularchand Yadav, who is a supporter of the Jan Suraaj Party.

Police investigation has already started in the case. As per the statement of Patna Senior Superintendent of Police Kartikeya Sharma, “Based on evidence, eyewitness accounts, and the postmortem report, it was established that the incident occurred under the direct watch of the candidate, who has been arrested as the main accused.”

Further in his statement, Kartikeya Sharma said, "... On October 30, there was a clash between two groups of competing candidates. Stones were pelted resulting in injuries. A dead body was recovered after the incident. The deceased, Dularchand Yadav, aged 75 years, was a resident of the village where this clash occurred... Both sides registered cases, and police started investigating the case... Based on evidence, eyewitness accounts, and the postmortem report of the deceased, it appears that the Model Code of Conduct was violated, and it is a serious issue.

The political clash turned deadly during a campaign in Mokama, which is one of Bihar’s politically sensitive constituencies. In Mokama, Anant Singh is famous for his strongman image. Notably, he is contesting as the JDU candidate. The political clash between two groups led to serious injuries and one casuaity. After the incident, a case has been registered against members of both groups for violating the Model Code of Conduct (MCC).

Anant Singh took to his Facebook and posted a video that showcased him being escorted by police personnel. In the caption of the video, he wrote, "Satyamev Jayate! I have complete faith in the people of Mokama!! That's why now the people of Mokama will fight this election!"
