New Delhi: Nitin Nabin on Monday has been elected as the national president of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) without opposition. The party confirmed that 37 sets of nomination papers were submitted in his favour, and no other candidates were proposed for the position.

Who is the BJP’s new national chief?

Nitin Nabin, who was five consecutive times MLA from Bankipur and National Working President of the party, has become the new national president of the BJP, taking charge unopposed after no rival nominations were filed.

The outcome was clear from the start of the scrutiny process. All nomination papers filed in Nabin’s support were found valid, sealing his elevation to the top post.

How was the decision finalised?

The BJP received 37 nomination papers backing Nitin Nabin for the president’s post. After examination by the party’s returning officer, every nomination was declared valid. With no other candidate entering the race before the deadline, Nabin was formally declared elected unopposed.

What did BJP's returning officer say?

K Laxman, who is made in charge of the election for the party's top post, said that Nitin Nabin is the only candidate to have been proposed for the BJP national president's post.

"Under the Bharatiya Janata Party’s Sangathan Parv, the constitutional and transparent process for the nomination of the National President has been successfully completed. As per the prescribed procedure, following the completion of organisational elections in 30 out of 36 States, the processes of nomination, scrutiny, and withdrawal were duly conducted. With support received from across the country, only the name of Shri Nitin Nabin Ji has been proposed for the post of National President of the Bharatiya Janata Party,” the party's statement added.

BJP's Returning officer said Prime Minister Narendra Modi was among the proposers of Nitin Nabin's candidature for BJP president.

What does his elevation signal for the BJP?

Nabin’s unchallenged rise is being seen as a sign of unity within the party at a crucial time. With several state elections on the horizon and preparations already underway for future national contests, the BJP appears keen to project stability and continuity at the top.

Party leaders believe his appointment will help maintain organisational momentum while keeping the focus on cadre strength and election readiness.
